Blu Ray compatibility clarification question

I just wanted to check something if anyone can help.

I have been looking at the Samsung LE32A456. I was also looking at Sony's KDL32V4000 until I read on here that it won't perform well with Blu Ray as the picture will judder.

This had got me confused as I thought there was only the criteria of whether a TV is Full HD (1080p) or not (1080i). I know that the Samsung is not full HD, as it the case with all of the sets I have seen in the circa £300 price bracket, which is fine. But is it this simple fact of not being full HD that will cause juddering with Blu Ray, or is the 1080/24p I've read about on here something totally different and am I just getting mixed up. I did read one person on the forum say that they wouldn't recommend the Sony because it would have this problem, but then recommends the Samsung.

Any help to clear this issue up for me would be very much appreciated. Thanks

Same issue as I had. The sony will not accept a 1080p/24fps signal. The samsung however will accept these signals and so is able to display these, albeit scaled down.

Yeah I actually saw that, but the guy who posted an in depth response is talking about the 57 model you asked about, not the 56. Dunno whether that makes a difference. I saw on another forum someone said they are the same set inside with slight cosmetic differences, but I wanted assurance about that.

I just realised how current your posts about the TV were. Has the TV come yet and if so what do you think? and why did you go for the 57 not the 56 model?

Shame on me... apologies for not reading your post through properly. On the samsung website they look (spec sheet) identical, although the 456 sheet doesn't mention an optical audio out unlike the 457. Could just be an oversight. I'd just get the 457 to be sure :D

It's all about the 24p capability. Nothing to do with the resolution. You can show BD on a 1024 x 768 just fine provided it it can "lock" to the native frame rate of the BD source.

Thaks for the replies, guys. That seems to have sorted the problem. I'll go down to Currys later and check the TV out. :) Grr typical - Currys have wacked the price back up to £379 now! Back to hunting online. I did look on the John Lewis website at the 57, but they're out of stock. :(

Despite all the posts about 24p capability - the recent review of the sony 32v4000 on this very site does state that the bluray picture and motion tracking is more than capable and doesnt havent motion issues.

I wonder if people are not looking too much at specs and not at what the results in reality are.

Click on the "tech specs" tab on the same review and it says that it is 24fps capable.

Whether this is true 24fps or via some internal adaption process is another story but if it looks great then fine.

Just seems a bit confusing that on one hand the review and tech spec on this site says that the 32V4000 can can handle 1080p/24fps but yet on another thread Clare says (in reference to the 32V4000) that the "Sony is unable to accept a 1080p/24fps signal, which is pretty poor for a 2008 set. (And yes, all but a miniscule selection of Blu-rays are 1080p/24fs)"

Just wanted a bit of clarity is all.... one of these statements has to be incorrect right?.... or am I missing something?

Thanks
