I suppose that it had to happen eventually, My centre speaker has blown (makes tearing, vibrating noise at anything over very low levels)

My question is whether it's worth me trying to get it repaired, buy a new centre speaker or to buy a new surround set up as my current speakers are all getting very old. Would I notice the change? I've got about £500 - £600 that the wife has allowed me to spend.

I've seen the reviews for the Q acoustics 2000 cinema pack which looks good, but I suppose I would have to add in the price of stands for the front pair as the would look out of place in comparison with my current set up.

Any advice would be welcome.

Thanks

Thanks for the feedback rocky66, do you have the Kef KHT package on stands. if so what type?

It's just that my current front speakers are floor standing, so if I bought the same package as you I would need stands

thanks again

achron - could you say exactly what speakers you have at the moment? If you have Kef floorstanders, I suspect that you might be severely disappointed by cheaper alternatives, especially 'style' speakers.

The is at least one replacement centre on ebay at the moment - I'd seriously consider that unless you want to spend a lot of dosh!

Thanks Sorreltiger, my front speakers are as I mentioned quite old and they are Centre - Kef Q95C, Front - Kef Q35,

Without wondering how on earth you managed to blow - I suspect damage the voice coil in - your KEF speaker, I'd suggest the best solution is a repair or a replacement KEF centre to match with your current front left/right speakers.

It really would be worth you contacting KEF. Many years ago, I dropped my Q95C behind the TV. As the banana plugs were in at the time, the binding posts broke. I spoke to a friendly chap at KEF and he sent me replacement binding posts FOC. I am not suggesting that they will fix your speakers for free, but probably will try to help you.

Thanks to all of you for your comments, In answer to Andrews question, the speakers were fine one night and when I went to use them the following night the centre was defunct, the only thing that happened in between was that both my teenage daughters were home on their own, so a possiblity of very loud music might be involved, but of course they deny all.

So I shall try and contact somebody at Kef, failing that source a Kef C6LCR

Thanks again for your help.

Yup, that'll do it...
