Bi-Amping Onkyo 875 and Musical Fidelity XT-100

Hi,

I know the topic of biamping has been raised in the past and as such I've looked at the previous posts, but I still have a couple of questions that you guys may be able to answer.

I've recently acquired a Musical Fidelity XT-100 Amp to go with my other MF components (X-RAY V8, X-Plora and soon to be X-DAC V8),

As far as I understand from previous threads, I need to take the Pre-Outs from the Onk to the Line in on the XT-100. I assume I will then need to re-calibrate the Onk surround settings to get an even match (noting where the XT-100 volume is set to in the process).

Will this still allow the Onk to do it's stuff as far as decoding etc is concerned? When watching films what settings does the Onk need to be on or do they remain the same as if I was only using the Onk?

In terms of source components, would I be right in thinking that the musical sources such as CD and DAB connect directly to the XT-100 and the film sources such as Blu-ray, HD-DVD and XBox 360 all connect to the Onk via HDMI?

Thanks for your input.

Correct on every point, but do be aware it's not biamping, in that the front left and right speakers are only connected to the XT-100's speaker terminals, not the Onkyo's.

Andrew,

Many thanks for your ever speedy response.

To be biamped the speakers would need to be connected to both amplifiers? What is the configuration I am talking about called?

Aeis.

Andrew,

Can I just check that I need to use the front pre-outs from the Onk?

Thank you.
