With sound from our aging Sony 27" (not even flat!) TV, my wife would listen very low, but to me there was no involvement or excitement to shows. I preferred the sound louder, but she found that too noisy, too shouty.
The solution was not wireless headphones, but better TV sound via Soundbar. The crisper sound, improved dialogue, and even some bass works for both of us. Now I don't mind low volumes since everything is clear and dynamic, and she doesn't mind when it's louder for the same reasons. We now set a volume and there's no more fighting over the remote!
