I'm in the market for a new TV and have a budget of £500 maximum, but I'd like to save as much as possible.

The only requirements I have is that it has to be 40" and 1080p, but apart from that I'm open to all suggestions.

It will be hooked up to Sky HD and we watch a lot of sport in HD. I'm an avide PS3 gamer too, and we also watch a lot of Blu Ray's.

I've seen the Samsung LE40B500 for £399.99 from Richer Sounds, if this a good buy or can anyone suggest something better for my needs?

Thanks in advance.

I would suggest a Samsung LE40C580 which can be bought for around £430, and John Lewis have it for £499.95 with a 5 year guarantee.

Also the samsung LE40C550. I'm just selling my LE40B650 which has been brilliant, and the only difference I know about between the 650 and 550 is 100hz motion processing, and I always have that turned off as it creates annoying artefacts and actually increases judder.

Worth looking around for these on the internet and checking reviews.

But what does the LE40C580 do that the LE40B500 doesn't? I can't see any major differences, but then I know nothing about TV's.

I've also seen the LG 42LD450 for £380, would this be worth considering?

Ok I bought the Samsung LE40C580 and I have to admit I'm really impressed with the picture quality.

However, I'm not so impressed with the lack of an audio out for phono connections to my 2.1 speakers!

I dug out a phono to 3.5mm jack that came with my speakers and that's doing the job, but it sounds quieter and doesn't have as much punch than if it was connected directly to the audio out, if the TV had one.

Is it just me or is that statement probably true?
