Hi All

I know nothing about televisions but am ready to part with £1000 to buy an upgrade from my 15 year old box.

Can anyone tell me the best TV for in and around the £1000 (give or take a few quid) please?

I don't have any preference on manufacturer. I am looking for 40-42 inch screen, don't know whether plasma or LED is better (I keep reading mixed reviews about both!).

I will usually watch TV on it, but really when I can get a blue ray player, would like to use it for that. I do have an xbox 360 but use it about once a month so this isn't super high on my requirememnts.

I think that's it.

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help me. Anything comments would be really appreciated.

Regards
David

David,

I don't know how big your room is, but if it could house a 50" the award winning samsung PS50B650 would be a great buy at just over £1000.00.

If not any of the Samsung LED models or the panasonic P42V10 would also be good.

panasonic P42V10 would top my list , the P42G10 is also very good , and only a little over £700 , agree the samsung 7020 40inch , philips 9664 award winner , hmmm ? £1500 i havnt seen one , but £800 more than a g10 ?? id struggle to justify that ..

A guy in my office has just bought the LG 42LH5000 for £665. It's a cracking TV and has just wont the award for best budget 42". Save the rest of your cash and put it towards a blu ray player.

I'd be inclined to agree. Either the LG model mentioned by Acciesboy, or the G10 mentioned by Maxflinn, would serve you extremely well; and I'm not sure you get a great deal more performance (if any), by spending an extra £300. Couple either of these TVs with a decent Blu Ray player (maybe the Sony award winner for £400) and you've got a cracking 'budget-to-mid-range' set up. In fact, the only reason you can describe any of the above as 'budget' is because of the extent to which they've come down in price in recent months...

If you already own a Blu Ray player, then I'm sure you can find something equally gratifying to spend the spare three-hundred quid on!
