Hi,

I have an Onkyo CR-515 and Q Acoustic 1020 speakers, I would like more bass from this setup so was considering the Q Acoustic 1000si sub. Is there any other I should consider or am I best matching the sub to the speakers?

The other thought I had was to upgrade to floorstanders like the Q 1050i's but then I think I would have to upgrade from the Onkyo to drive them.

Any suggestions ???

Thanks

The 1050i is a superb floorstander for the money, often available for less than £300 is you shop round. One place in Ayr recently had them for just over £250 for the holiday weekend. Great price for a great speaker.

It depends how you want to go, the Q sub is the obvious one of choice given it'll blend in well with your existing speakers. Long term, the 1050i is a good upgrade if you have the space and will withstand an upgrade or two from your Onkyo. Horses for courses I guess; can you try the pair of them out?

Thanks for your response, do you think my Onkyo would be OK to drive the 1050's until I can upgrade? Or is the underpowered Onkyo likely to damage the speakers.

I do like the sound from the Onkyo/1020, so maybe adding the sub is the best/cheapest way to go to get the extra bass.

Life is complicated....or do I just make it that way?

Not sure of the power output of the Onkyo, nor of the power requirements for the Q's - best check the Q Acoustics website and have a look at the relevant numbers on there I think.

I agree with the previous suggestion to get floorstanding speakers instead. I'm biased against subs. It is very rare for a satellite/sub system to sound as good as floorstanders. If you are interested in 2 channel music listening, then a sub will most likely leave you unsatisfied. And if you end up hating the sub, it will not actually be the "cheaper" option after all.
