Yamaha have got a good reputation for Soundbars and the YSP30D is available for £449.95 at Sound and Vision but will put you over budget when you add any of the YST Subwoofers (£100 or £120).

Amazon has got a great deal on the YSP 600 model at a cracking price of £299.92 plus there is a Samsung model HT-X810R with wireless subwoofer at well under budget. I cannot comment on the Samsung but my neighbour has the YSP 600 and he is happy and he managed to get a Yamaha Sub Woofer for £80 from Richer Sounds. If you want boom then you def need a Subwoofer.

My 30D comes with 2 optical inputs one for Aux and the other for TV/STB. Audio inputs (phono leads) again 2 for the same inputs. 2 Coaxial are provided for Aux 2 and DVD. On the HDMI front there are 2 inputs and one output.

I believe the YSP 600 is similar. You can check on the Yamaha audio/vision site where there are acrobat manuals for them.

Try the Q-AV system. It comes as 3.1 (soundbar and Sub) or 5.1. I've currently got the front soundbar (L-C-R) and two satellites (I have Montior Audio Sub) and they are great. Loud enough for my wife to complain, the dialogue is crystal clear and looks neat under my telly.

Not sure if I can plug e-tailers on here but Phil at MustAVit breaks the package up and sells the components individually - so you can buy the soundbar or the sub separately. I got the table top stand and the soundbar from him a couple of months back and haven't regretted it for one minute.

You can prob get the 3.1 system for about £450 or thereabouts and the soundbar for £225 without the sub.
