Hi, I am looking for a secondhand amp to run a pair of Tannoy revolution R3's (in one room) and a smaller set of speakers (make model tbc but some sort of bookshelfs) in another room. Budget is a bit tight so ideally something that can be ebay'd for £150. At the moment looking at Arcam Alpha 9 and Rotel RA 04 but any other suggestions would be much appreciated!

Many thanks.

With your budget I would suggest Marantz PM66KI. PM66KI is better than PM66SE or PM66 due to better components being used.

Absolutely Arcam. (Every Arcam beats any Rotel beats every NAD - NAD might be fine with Tannoys though - beats any Marantz in my book.) Or if you can find reasonably priced one, Musical Fidelity A2 or A3 or A1000 if you prefer something more mellow. One thing that might work even better than Arcam is Harman Kardon HK 620 or 610 IMO.

I think you would struggle to get a good Alpha 9 for £150, there's plenty of Alpha 8's under £150 though. If your lucky you might get an A80 for £150ish.

Other suggestions would be Harman Kardon's HK-6550 or HK-670, I can't think of any NAD's in your budget which have two sets of speaker connections.

Just heard a metal-cased Cyrus 2 and it still sounds good.

But, would you pair it with Tannoys? Cyrus 3 was much better matched with B&Ws and Missions of yore. MF A1 was good with Tannoy 632 and first Mercury and Revolution speakers, but they both, vintage Cyrus and A1, tend to be overpriced today. I think Arcam Alpha 7-9 is best buy on today's SH market.
