I am looking for some new in-ear earphones. Looking at the reviews on this website I was thinking of the Beyerdynamic DTX50 (around £43 is cheapest I can see) or the Sennheiser CX300 II (£15). There do seem to be a lot of Sennheisers so not sure what is the best for me.

I use them for running, going to work on the train, bus, walking. Any advice please

The Sennheisers will not work for running. You will hear every step you take and you will also hear your own heavy breathing. For general use they are great, especially on the train as they have great noise isolation (snug fit). If you can get the version 2 for that price you have sourced a great deal. I have only seen version 1 models at that price (still great though). Probably better with on/over ear for running. Hope this helps.

The Sennheiser CX300 II (eco packaged ) are £15 on Play.com at the moment - son has just received his. I payed £30 a coupe of weeks ago and I thought they were good value then.

That's a great deal for the CX300 II. I got them a while ago for £30 and thought they were great value, they reinvigorated my listening of my MP3 player and the detail I had been missing in my music has been revealed through them. However, I would agree with the comment that they aren't the best if you plan on using them while running as any knock's on the cables results in noise in your ears.

I have the DTX 50s, and my feelings are mixed.

Negatives:

Well, they don't seem to fit into my ears too well, and I'm never sure they're entirely where they should be. Also, they have tiny holes, so clean your ears sqeuaky clean every day; otherwise, they'll get stuffed, and you won't hear anything. Hard to clean, too!

Positives:

They do sound great and isolate noise pretty well, too. Strong bass and punch. At £43 they're good value, in my view.

Mind you, I'm looking into closed on-ear phones now...

Isn't that an oxymoron? :)

a handy tip - loop the cable over your ear - it takes the tension out of the cord, and means you don't hear every step/movement echoed through the sound.
