I am moving into my own house in the next few weeks and am desperate to purchase a home cinema in a box system to go with my panasonic plasma.

I have always wanted separates but to be honest I dont feel my lounge will be big enough to accomodate, therefore Ive decided to go with a home cinema in a box.

My budget is upto £1000. So far the systems I am considering are the Keft kit 120, kef kit 530, sony HTIS-100. I will also be purchasing a seprate Panasonic blu ray player as well.

Can anyone please give me any advice as to whats the best system to get ?

Thanks for your help

Sorry to slightly disagree first of all, but just want to see which part of your lounge is the issue. If it's the speakers you're concerned about, you could get a separate amp and a style speaker package. Something like the Sony STR-DG820 or even the Denon AVR-1909 plus a style package like the Mission M-Cube, the Acoustic Energy Aego T, the KEF 2005.2 or even the Q Acoustics Q-AV packages. Obviously you should audition these first, but at the budget you're looking at, I'm almost positive you can get a better separate system than an all-in-one system and it will be easier to upgrade in the future.
If the speakers aren't limiting the purchase, let me know as you can get even better sound with bigger more traditional speakers.

The size of the lounge is the issue. Personally I was thinking with seperates that I may get blown away in my small living room and the fact that the system and speakers may dominate the room which is why I was thinking for an all in one system.

Pioneer LX01
* * * * * £1800

'By some way the best home cinema-in-a-box system in the world' WHFSAV.

Note: It is possible to get this system at a cheaper price than quoted. I've seen it at £1449.95 (SuperFi). Worth the price if you could up your budget (IMO).

Okay, but my point was you can get an unobtrusive separate speaker package like the ones I linked to which won't dominate the room. It's up to you of course, but I think you could get a much better system if you go separates and the style speakers will be no bigger than the ones that come in an all-in-one system. As to being blown away, you don't have to turn the volume up that loud!

Thanks for the advice, I will take a look at the Mission M cube and also wait for reviews on th kef 2005.3. Out of those 2 which would you say are better ?

I dont suppose you have listened to the Onkyo HTX-22HD Home Theatre Package System. I am quite interested in this speaker package and was wondering if anyone has any feedback on them ?

I just want to make sure that I get the best surround sound system for my lounge without the system dominating the room

    • I would forget all in one packages if your buget is £1000 seperates will blow it away and can bo easily upgraded. Why not try these suggestions
    • Onkyo 606 or Denon 1909 and Quadlites you may get a deal i paid £360 for my onkyo and £495 for quadlite in silver only issue hard now to find them in any other colour than rosewood Hifi confidential may have them for £429. Or strectch to the 875 if you can. And I would wait for new offerings from Pioneer and denon on the blu ray player.(Over budget)
    • Onkyo 606 or Denon 1909 and Jamo A102hcs5 and Panasonic Bd50(Buget)
    • Onkyo 576 orSony Dg820 and Jamo A102hcs5 and Panasonic Bd30(Uunder buget)
    • All great equipment that you could mix and match and more sound options and modes to choose from.
    • Go and listen for yourself i had an all in one and i would never go back to it now.

Haven't heard the Missions so can't really comment. If the 2005.3s are a step up from the 2005.2s though, they should be very good!

No it seems no one has reviewed them yet Its a case of waiting or going for something else . You would still be better off with seperates just seen Peter tyson selling radius r90 av package in silver for £519 down from £999 or even smaller like the mission m cubes are the radius r45 or you can mix and match them.
