I have just purchased a Sony KDL-40W4000 and will be getting sky HD installed next week. I have a question with regard to HDMI cables.

1) Is it worth my while upgrading the cable that comes with the Sky HD installation and if so does anyone have any suggestions as to which HDMI cable I should purchase? My price range would be around £50.00.

If I were you I would get a cable on a free trial and see what you think.

Clearer Audio as an example has a £50 HDMI cable that you can try for 60 days.

Ahhh I see, point taken. What do you think of the cable recommended by Garth Man from Play?

Appreciate the advice.

Impossible to comment on a cable I haven't seen I'm afraid - have a look through the reviews here and see what you think.

As a known entity for me personally, I would suggest the Cambridge Audio would be fine for Sky HD. As someone else has said though, I'd suggest negotiating with the dealer that you can return it for a refund if you don't think it's offering any improvement over the free one.

If its rubbish in your eyes, you have only spent £.7.50!!!!!!! Then buy a QED, which i recommened to all people before I was proven wrong.....and I hate being wrong

Is the QED no good in your opinion then Gareth; I only ask because I shelled out on 3 of them on the back of WHF recommendations - a 5 star product.

haha thats ok dude, well nothings wrong with QED cables at all, as i said i used to recommend QED cables. Just theres no logical scientific difference between these digital cables. As long as its built ok, HDMI 1.3a and above whats the diiference!!!

They should chuck in this whole HDMI business in and use dedicated Ethernet connections instead

Thats good to know; so which cable would you recommend that is pretty much the same as the QED but at a fraction of the cost? I need a couple more thats all?

I bought this for £17.99 and this for £4.99, both from play.com, and I can't tell the difference between them used between my Panasonic Blu-ray player and my Panasonic 1080p 42" plasma. However, WHF reviews and the testament of many on this site suggest that it is worth paying considerably more. I suggest that if you can find a retailer willing to let you try an expensive cable with no obligation to purchase then you should give it a go and make up your own mind.

I agree with smithdom, find a retailer and test an expensive one, then test a cheaper one. Even ask them, the guys I bought my TV from said the same things and saw no differnce in the cables.
