How much are you prepared to spend - speaker package is irrleevant bass is just bass.

So you just want the best sub you can afford - or best 4 subs is even better.

How much do you want to spend?

It depends David on a lot of factors. 4 subwoofers has distinct advantages for freq response but requires more skill to setup

Next questions were how big is your room? Do you have it as a dedicated space?

How many seats are you looking to cover?

To be honest David I was thinking for pure output like what the op wants he could do a lot worse than 2 XTZ 3x12 and about £400 - £500 in his pocket which would pay for a Mini DSP Nano DL and he then chop the auddessey in the denon.

Or he could get 2 Power Sound Audio V3601 which would be 4 x 18s and some serious welly.

That will wrench your gut hardcore amounts

Then again if he def wants 4 subs then 4 x BK Monolith + and a lot of ££ in his pocket or even 8 x BK Monolith + and then you have all manner of options for stacking the subs etc.

Could do a dual Ken Kriesel stack - but you would need to have the skill to set this all up otherwise you might be cancelling some of the subs out and therefore wasted your money

How about 4 passive subs and a subwoofer amp (or amps) to drive them?

Or just chaining in the subs to the FL, FR, SBL and/ or SBR channels?

Personally I would go for two A1 quality subs rather than four B-grade ones, as most receivers only handle left and right fields, not FL, FR, SBL and SBR fields, and it will avoid harmonic dead zones in the room you might get with four subs.

4 subs (one each corner) removes bass nulls it doesnt create them - that is the benefit of having 4 subs.

4 subs one in each corner will more than likely give the best overall freq response for the mlp and the largest sweet spot

However stacking subs gives a natural 3db boost - so having 4 subs one in each corner isnt the best solution for natural spl level gains, however you still will get the spl gain of 4 subs.

So it depends on what you want it for - how big is your room and how much spl you need

People on a forum on this side of the pond told me exactly the opposite. It might depend on the size of the room. But then I'm not an expert on acoustics, so what would I know?

You just need to reverse the phase of the subs at the rear of the room and boom bass nulls most likely gone - I works in my room theoretically
