Hi, im new to home cinema but after buying the tv, and just recently added a blue ray player ive found myself scouring the web for affordable surround sound.

I have a 42in LG tv, a Lg bd390 blue ray player and im pleased with them both.

originally i wanted to spend as little as possible (about £200 max) on a reciever, but the more i look the more features become ever present that i think i will need only in a more expensive piece of equipment.

so the budget has risen to £300-£350 max.

I would have to use small size speaker package like the tannoy sfx5.1 or jamo a102 hcs5 due to small room size.

I would ideally like something that would excel at lower listening volumes, but not hugely important.

many thanks

I would go for the Onkyo 508 at £269 and add the Jamo a102 it's a great combo, which would leave money for speaker cables or some blu-rays.The Denon 1910 is an alternative option at £329, but the Onkyo fits the bill perfectly.

Shaine,

You want the best amp for £300-£350, max.

Go with either the Denon AVR-1910 or the Onkyo TX-SR607.

Want to do better? Go for the Onkyo TX-SR608, available for £375.00 on E-Bay (brand new, UK model, black or silver, 2 year back to base warranty, VAT Invoice)

Thanks.

Ok the onkyo 608 is beyond budget.

will i definatley need dolby true hd decoding, or will normal dolby digital and dts do while watching blue rays?

i have my eyes on the onkyo 508, the yamaha rxv467.

unless im given reason to avoid them.

Im hoping because of my budget one of these will do.

unless im missing any others?

I am a big fan of Marantz and the NR1501 looks interesting for a smaller set-up, has the processing you want, and looks like you can pick them up for under £300.
