Hi Guys

I am hoping you can help. I have a pioneer 51fd blu ray player and a Onkyo tr 605. I am really struggling to get the optimum audio settings. The Blu ray is connected to the AMP via hdmi and the digital input / output is selected on the amp as HDMI. I have the movie sound setting as Dolby DTS neo II . I have to turn the amp up to 75 to get a decent volume. When watching blu ray movies i click on display I am not getting dolby True HDMA or dolby true HD on the AMP or the blu ray player. Just dolby digital 5.1. I then switched the AMP setting to allow hdmi throughput to allow the Blu ray player do the decoding but i have had no luck. What should the optimum settings be on the blu ray player and amp? I switched off the dynamic range control also but i am only getting a very volume output. Incidentally when I switch over to Sky HD on the AMP, the volume blows the roof off so its a setting somewhere in the AMP/blu ray player.

Thanks in advance

I am not familiar with your kit but as you recognise something is definately wrong

75 on volume is way too much 0 should be around reference level which is 75db and that also would be too loud , -15 seems about right on my Yam z7.

The clue for me is when you use SKY and volume blows the roof off , SKY uses optical and you say that you set digital input / output is selected on the amp as HDMI I would suggest there is something wrong with this setting.

Again you are only seeing Dolby digital 5.1 which is the SKY sound format.

I would recommend resetting your amp and player back to factory defaults and start again, check the manuals how to do this

Connect the player to amp with HDMI and play a disc without changing any settings in either machine , see what happens

ps I wouldnt use the system as it is due to concerns about causing damage
