Help. I need to purchase a BD player and dont have clue as I am an old school DVD man.

My old sytem that my ex wife got 9 years ago comprised of Lexicon DC2,Parasound 6 channel amp, Def tech BP3000 towers and matching centre and BPX rears. So i was into my multichannel and have taken the plunge once again!!

My present system which I think rocks and really surprised me as I thought it would sound terrible in comparison to my old system,( AV has come on in terms of quality in the last 9 years), Denon AVR 3310, Monitor Audio R90HD system, QED silver anniversary XT speaker cable,Chord super shield HDMI cables and a PS3 as my playing source for everything.

I want something that will be great with music as multichannel music is the most important aspect of the system, but it will also have to spin BD, DVD A if poss.

Is it worth investing in anothet set of speakers to go 7.1 as My rears are to my sides and the sofa is up against the back wall?

I hope you AV nuts out there can help as I am hooked again.

Thank you

What's your budget? There are number of universal Blu-Ray players which range from £500 with the (whisper it) Oppo BDP-83 (though this is only available as an import as was never officially released in the UK) up to the dizzy heights of the £5,000 Marantz UD9004.

WHF's take on the never released Oppo BDP-831 (essentially the same player, but the UK spec) can be found here.

Richer Sounds have the Cambridge Audio 650BD for 399.95.

For that money there are great offers from Sony and LG as well. The new Sony BDP-S370 will have SACD too. I'd say wait for the new models to hit the shops then audition those within budget.

For a universal player at around £500, I think the Oppo is your only choice. It got rave reviews from most places though, including this blog from Mr Everard here at WHF.

EDIT - my bad - as pointed out, there's the Cambridge Audio player and also some new players on the horizon so waiting might be the best bet.
