Hi,

does anyone know which backlight is used in the new LG55 le8900 and 9900 models?, apparently sony use the RGB ones in their 55 inch set and it is believed to produce superior pictures as opposed to the clear ones more commonly used, and can anyone provide consumption figures for these backlit sets,

thanks

Just to clarify, Sony used RGB LED backlighting in its KDL55X4500 last year, but this set is discontinued. None of the latest current Sony sets use RGB LED backlighting. I asked Sony why not long before I left the industry and they cited the high costs of the technology.

thanks for the reply, was very surprised at that, what with the cost of some of these new sets you would think thats the way forward, look at the new samsung set at 7 grand!, i would expect a gold frame for that least of all a reduction in technology, dont get me wrong its an excellent set but at a premium price.

Andrew,

yes checked the website again the consumtion figure is there but poorly, perhaps you should start adding these figures to all the sets you test and do it in such a way that it shows figures at all power levels, in these days of economy im sure many would find this interesting, LG are not very good at responding with correct answers to questions on their site as well as this request i asked if the new LG8900 had the same remote control as the le9900 (the one with the point and click menu feature) but they omitted to put it in, further more these sets are not in the country yet, i do hope that you will be testing both these sets in the near future.
