Hi, im currently in the process of purchasing my first LCD
or Plasma TV. I plan to use my TV for mainly watching SD from my sky plus box,
however, i will also have a PS3 wired to
it and would like to get the most out of this. The PS3 is mainly used for gaming, but i do own a couple of Blu Ray disks and no doubt my collection will grew over time. I am after around a 40"/42" TV, i sit about 4m - 4.5m away, so i think this is about the correct size im looking at. However, if i could get something around the 46" mark without the lose of quality then that would be great. I have read countless forum
topics and magazine reviews and reports. But every time i seem to be narrowing
down my list of TV’s, i read another review or article and the list grows
again!! So could someone help me with the basic information i should be looking
at when choosing a TV;

Firstly, how important is Full HD? Should i not even
consider a HD ready TV?

How important is the contrast ration? New TV’s such as the
LG6000 range and the Samsung 6 series offer 50,000 : 1, however, a number of
sharp TV’s only seem to offer 2,000 : 1, but i have seen these in action and
the picture looks perfect.

How important is 100hz?

Which is better for my requirements, LCD or Plasma?

Or should i not be getting to hung up on all of this? Or is there something else i should be taking more into account. Any advice with all or any of the above questions would be great!!! Finally, my budget is £800 or there abouts, if anyone has
any recommendations or suggestiosn, i would be very grateful.

Thanks

James

What size are you after.

What is your viewing distance?

Is the PS3 used for BluRay or just gaming?

Don't be misled by contrast ratios - different vendors use different ways of making the measurement.

For £800 I'd be looking at no bigger than a 37 inch screen. Sony and Panasonic would be my brands of choice.

Full 1080p HD is what I'd go for. 100Hz I'd be less worried.

There will be a bigger choice of LCD than plasma at this size.

Get the most up to date model you can afford.
