Hi all.

Is backlight bleed a problem with all lcd tv's and if so would my Apple 23" HD monitor also sho bleed. (just for the sake of comparing).

It's just I was looking at getting a Sony 40W4500 after xmas and the recent thread has put me off. May look at one of the Panasonics again.

Incidentally (as I know someone will mention plasma) - all though the Kuro is the best picture I've seen by far (although haven't seen a 9th gen 42" 1920 x 1080 panel available yet). we do play alot of video games (which get paused for long periods) and the kids have disney channel on constatly so would have a big fear of burn-in.

Cheers

I am far from an expert and yes, I prefer good plasma at present, but I had to go to comets this morning to pick up a Tosh upscaler XDE-500 (£60, thanks again for tip here). Whilst there I looked at tv's as you do and have to say I was once again impressed with the Samsung LED backlit sets. Blacks were good as were the colours. I could clearly see the uneven backlight (white patches) on a sony set in the bottom right corner.

Having said all this, I'm glad I got my plasma which, to my eyes, is far superior to anything these shops carry but I understand your concerns and agree lcd or related technology would probably be a better choice. Perhaps one of the new RGB LED backlit sets from Sharp or Sony? I'd stay away from non-LED backlit tv's though. Just my opinion as usual.

regards

Thanks for the reply.

Just been having a hunt around on the web for LED Backlight TVs and sadly all but one that I've seen are way out of my price range (only wanting to shed about a grand). How ever I did notice the Samsung LE40A786 at £900 so will check that one out. Interestingly samsung don't have this on their website..

Anyone got a Samsung LE40A786?

I have the 37PX80 and the wife watches lots of Living programs and I watch lots of SKY sports programs and 24 News (sad I know). They all have logos, banners, tickertapes etc... I havent seen any retention at all. As long as you watch a mix of programs over time you wont have a problem.

Also, if you pause the picture, after about 10 minutes the 2008 Panasonics automatically detects the picture isnt changing and drops the contrast right down to avoid this problem. Plus nearly all the TV Logos have now changed to low contrast logos which actually move around the screen slightly as opposed to being in a fixed postition all the time.

Happy christmas all and regarding the samsung's they have superb picture quality and just a thought but why not buy the LE37A456? which you can purchase for under 400.00 if you look around. It;s the 37' version of the award winning A456/A457.
