I must hear the B&W Cm 8 and the KEF R500. One of these will i choice. From B&W i read different reviews. The one said darker sound (what i like), other the top ens is shouting and too bright. I don't lijke that at all.

By the way; it will be driven by a Exposure 3010S2.

The B&Ws will be a good match with your Exposure amp and will compensate for the harsh recordings found in metal and rock. Also worthy to mention is they love being played loud, they really open up.

But i read from many users "too bright and harsh top end"? And the cm 8 will have very poor bass.

Once you hear the 2 speakers with your intended system, I would expect you to have a clear favorite.....and it will have nothing to do with what anyone else prefers.

BTW. If you choose the B&Ws, you'll be wrong! *wink**diablo*

B&Ws don't fare well with weak amps. Features like high current delivery and damping factor are an asset.

Hi Peterpan I compared the CM8 and the R500s and for me and my Rock Metal BluesFolk pop etc the Kefs won I even had a home dem of the R700s which really shook the house the mai reason i didn't buy them they blocked the view of the telly as they are over a meter tall great speaker though

"Bright" is subjective, but IMO Kef R Series are not bright, especially when compared with their old XQ Series (and even IQ). Remember though, the amp will have an impact on how they will sound, so your Exposure should be fine.

Be sure to dem the B&Ws, in case you prefer them.

The KEFs are not bright but flat and that can feel light in bass and bright to some. Best to have a home audition in your room with your amp.

I've not heard the R500s or R700s with "heavy metal" but they are great with 60s 70s rock. They seem relatively easy to drive too, I've not dared put my amp above 11 o'clock as I think the windows would fall out.

The bass on the cm8s is superb, but only in small to medium sized rooms. If your room is large then I would look at cm9 or a different speaker. In terms of brightness and shoutyness I'd say that the cm8s are fairly neutral but this can happen if you have a bright amp. Personally I'd try and home demo both of them. The cm8 mid-range was the best I heard at the price though :)

By the way; what about Dynaudio DM 3/7? I only heard one Dynaudio, the Focus 260, and found it with my music too bright and boring.

Where do you live peterpan? (no neverland jokes anyone) I'm just worried you're not goint to like any set up and find it all too bright. I'm convinced your problem is cables. As I've mentioned before most of that brightness/harshness has gone from the metal albums I listen too and they are clearer and crisper than before. Nothing to do with my CD player, amp or speakers, only that they a pretty good in the first place.

So if/when you audition an amp or CDP use coem Chord Company or Clearwater or Van Den Hull interconnects if the shop has them. Listen first without the cables and turn the sound up till you feel unconfortable then back down till you are comfortable. Then put the interconnects on. You should be able to listen louder while still feeling confortable.

If you try Chord Company start with the Cobra VEE 3 but aim for the Chameleon VEE 3, Or if it's a digital connection try a VEE 3 Prodac. Then wait for the Bristol Sound and vision show so you can buy them at a cheaper price than RRP.
