After reading your review today and having auditioned them again earlier in the week as i was still torn between these and the RS6's, i've decided to bite the bullet and get some along with the HTM62 and DS3's for the rears with the possibility of adding some 686's later on.

My two questions are,

I was not sure which sub to go for, i can stretch to the PV1, would this intergrate nicely with the rest or should i be looking for something a little cheaper maybe.

I had ordered a Onkyo 875 but because of the amount of time its taken me to get the money together and decide on what speakers i wanted i ended up just putting a deposit down, so was wondering, would it be worth waiting for the new models to come out, or is a case that in all reality they are not going to be that different and the 875 is going to be more than capable of seeing me out for the next few years.

thanks for your time, will

With the 684s I'd be thinking more in terms of one of B&W's more conventional subs, such as the ASW610. It sells for around the £400 mark.

875/876? The info I've seen so far suggests one more HDMI input and an extra output, plus some tweaks to the Audyssey system to add the Dynamic EQ function, and some extra adjustments available in the video section.

Nothing that makes me regret having an 875 - let's put it that way...

Do you really need a sub?

I have B&W 684 fronts, 686 rears and a VM 1 centre and although I haven't tried a sub yet the low frequency stuff seems to be handled just fine by the speakers I've got.

The guy from the shop I got my kit from is going to loan me a PV1 to try out and see if it makes much difference to the overall sound.

Cheers

Peter

Thanks for your reply guys.

Thanks Andrew, Thats pretty much what i was hoping somebody would say, makes me feel like i'm not being impatient and gonna come to regret it. Why do you recommend the ASW610, is it because it would better suit the system than the PV1 or is it because of the saving i can make?

Peter, quite honestly, i don't know, i've spent a lot of time looking around and reading up on systems etc, but in all reallity i'm very green on the subject. Be interesting to see what difference you think it makes, but i would hope it would make a huge difference in say busy action films.

thanks again, will

The 876 will mean cheaper 875 !! The 605 is already 50-60 pounds cheaper so the 875 may end up nearer a hundred off.

You could use this to negotiate that money off now, which you can give straight back to the dealer when you spend it on cable etc. Win-Win

Here's the overview:

B&W 684

£700

Five stars

For: Great looks and build; truly huge, all-round performance that makes the most of all types of music

Against: Best at high volumes; need to be pushed by a powerful amp

Verdict: Big, balanced and brilliant; B&W strikes gold once more.

How many stars did the Tannoy Rev. signature get? Which set won the group test?

I'm very curious about this. I cannot find the anser through google. (here in Holland, we have to wait for the July edition of What Hifi untill 15 June).

thanks
