I have just joined the forum to ask this question so I'm hoping someone out there can assist, thanks.

I have an azur 640c CD player which forms part of my Cambridge audio set up.
In recent times the cd will stop playing and the track number will flash on
the display. This can happen at any time during the playing of a cd and
after any number of tracks. For this reason I don't think it is to do with
over heating as it can happen during the second track after only 5 minutes
use.
In order to continue playing I open and close the cd drawer and the cd will
play again fine for a number of tracks.
This has been happening for about two years (yes I am quick to react!). The
CD player, although quite old has never been hugely used. The fault will
happen with any type of cd (shop bought or burned) . The unit was in storage
in a dry, dust free location for 2 years before the fault developed.
Can you give me any advice on what may be the cause of the problem and how
it can be rectified? I am not in a position to purchase another CD player
and I like the look and how it matches my other units.

many thanks for any advice you can give me

Hi Steve, and welcome to the forum.

If CD player start sticking it's usually one of two things - grime in the lens or a problem with the tracking of the laser assembly. I'd start by giving it a quick clean with a CD lens cleaner which'll cost you a couple of quid - if that doesn't solve the problem then we might have to pop the hood and see if the rails the laser runs on need a wipe/clean/greasing.
