Hi,
I'm a bit out of the loop as to what's available on the AVR front these days (my Arcam AVR300 does its job fine, though obviously has no HDMI inputs).
A friend of mine has asked for a recommendation for a receiver, but as I've not used any of the HDMI equipped units, I'm not in the best position to advise.
He's currently got a PS3, PC (with HDMI output) and a Sky HD box. He also has a set of 4 Linn speakers.
The requirements for a receiver are:
1. Take a HDMI input from all three boxes, and send HDMI out to his TV.
2. Allow him to set up the system as 4 speakers, no center, no sub (yet).
3. Decode all the Blu-ray sound formats, either from the PC or PS3 (and I presume it's possible to direct sound either to the speakers, or back out through HDMI to the TV)?
4. Accept a digital stereo signal from the PS3, so he can use it to play CDs to two of the speakers (I've not used a PS3, so don't know if you can do that via HDMI, or whether you need an SPDIF or coax connection).
5. Lots of fancy sound modes, upscaling, preouts (other than for a sub obviously) aren't required.
I see the Yamaha DSP-AX763 is the current best buy in the budget range, but it only has 2 HDMI inputs. Is there a suitable 3 HDMI equipped receiver that would be recommended, other than the more expensive Yamaha DSP-AX863SE?
