avoiding HD spinning

Hi.

I'm about to receive my USB DAC. I would like to use a media player that can load an entire disc to the memory before playing it, so that my HD will not spin (I will use an SSD as OS HD).
Is there such a media player ?

There is indeed, Media Centre 15 from J River. 30 day trail, then its $50, but IMO worth it. You can run it in memory mode, somehting I am about to try once I have my library completed...It needs >4Gb RAM for it to work OK (i.e. without any HD spin up)

Thanks, Steve, but I see it says "file is loaded in a background thread to system memory" - so the HD is still spinning. The idea of this feature is to produce smooth playback, not to quiet down the HD.

Check out the J Rivers forums, there are links to welltempered computer or similar where they ran some tests on it, and show the cpu usage. It does appear to work once it is buffered.
