I've read a review of the above on www.hidefdigest.com which hints at possible problems with some players due to the sheer volume of data on the discs. I have a sony BDP-S760 bluray deck running firmware version 11.4.008. Grateful to hear the experiences of anyone else out there who's been playing the new avatar se on the above bd deck/firmware combo. Any problems?

Thanks

You could save yourself the anxiety by simply not buying the film...

Dont listen the film is a must have and for two reasons, 1 its a great movie and 2 its a great way off showing off what blu-ray is all about. Just watched it again yesterday it was better in 3D though.

I agree; don't listen to the 'nay sayers',its a decent film, and a good test disc. Not convinced about it being best in 3D though?!

Give me a full 1080p 2D picture any day!

To answer the OP question though, either ring Sony and ask them, or rent the movie first!

I thought it was ok as well, also the sound and picture is reference material, and I am sure what hi-fi will at least agree with that

I wouldn't dispute that the disc is reference quality, but I don't want to watch ten-foot tall blue creatures swaying in unison as they channel the spirit of the trees, before plugging their hair into assorted creatures that look like ILM rejects. It doesn't matter how well presented they are, they're still deeply irritating. Don't get me wrong, I'm all in favour of a "green" message, but not this pseudo-spiritual nonsense. I struggle to remember a time I spent the duration of a movie cringing this much (perhaps watching Jake Lloyd in The Phantom Menace). If all we want is to coo over visuals, we can simply buy a kaleidoscope...

My intention was not to initiate a debate as to the merits of the film - I know some like it and some don't and while it does not come within a million miles of my fave films of all time, i thought it was an ok yarn and good BD material. I also have no interest in 3d, particularly not in getting a headache from those stupid glasses.

I simply wanted to know if anyone out there with the bluray player/firmware set up quoted in my original post has had any problems playing this release of avatar on said equipment, nothing more.

A lot of people had problems with the first one, mine would not play on my blu ray player so i had to do a firmware update, i am pretty sure if there is a problem then another firmware update would be issued to sort it out.

Which is a fair enough question. Please don't interpret my need to express my loathing for Avatar as a personal slight (any opportunity will do, such is my disdain for the film and what it represents in oh-so-many ways). I hope someone answers your question in full, though I suspect you won't encounter any problems with playback.
