Hi,

I am looking to buy new receiver with bookshelfs, center, sub and surrounds (5.1) for my dad. The requiment would be 80% of music and 20% movies.

Budget - $4500 - $5000

I have not audition any receiver or speakers till now and looking out for recommendation to plan it better. I own a Yamaha with towers and its going great. But I am open to any new suggestions/recommendations.

Thanks for your time.

Just confirmed with store that KEF 300 is available and its costing me around $1600, KEF100 pair for another $1100. Its well within my budget. I am planning to have a demo on these by today evening.

Any specific Yamaha receiver recommendations? And what about sub?

Thanks again !!

AV receiver depends on which speaker package you choose. Aim for Yamaha RX-A1040 as a minimum or Pioneer LX58. The Yamaha belongs to the superior Aventage range.

If you go for Kef, their R400b subwoofer is very good.

You can go for R300 as fronts, R200c as centre and R100 as rears. Both Yamaha and Pioneer will go well with it. With the Kef, I preferred the Pioneer as it offered more oomph.

Had a demo on KEF running with Denon X4100 receiver and R300 sounded great to me. I liked the tight Bass and vocals on these speakers though the high nodes were little light.

Since Yamaha 1040 was not available, I will have to visit again for another demo.

Apart from above I also get a chance to listen to B&W CM5, 685 models connected with Rotel Amps. 685 was fine. But I never heard about Rotel Amps and this dealer did not had any other AV receiver brand.

I also tried Polk LSiM 703 with Marantz and it was also sounding good. 703 was around $200 cheaper after discount.

I too personally liked the Yamaha receivers after owning one and planning to go with same only.

Will keep you posted on the updates..

Thanks !!

Here is the final price list I got -

Receiver - Yamaha RX-A1040 -- $1800

Bookshelf - R300 -- $1550

Center - R200c -- $950

Surrounds - R100 -- $1100

Sub - R400b -- $1500

Total -- $6900

Its exceeding my budget ($4500). Can you please suggest if downgrade in some aspect is possible?

Thanks again for your time.

The prices I mentioned are after considering discounts.

Apart from KEF, they sell speakers/sub of ELAC, CABASSE, B&W and polk. SVS was not available.

Which part of India are you based in?

They are the authorized dealers for SVS subwoofers:

Acoustic Arts
K-1/110 2nd Floor,
C.R. Park,
New Delhi, 110019
Phone: 011 - 41603949, +91 9810072060
Email: http://www.acoustic-arts.com

Also check these links:

Check if SVS SB1000 is cheaper than the Kef. SVS makes some of the best subwoofers in the market.

Once you factor all this in, does it come within your budget?

I have been following up with ARN systems here but SVS subs are not available and I am not sure if these would be in stock in near future.

Any other suggestions on subs?

Also I had a demo on 840 but did not liked the sound for this price, 1040 is class apart. I felt Yamaha 677 was sounding equal to 840 at moderate volumn.

Thanks for your time.
