Any advice appreciated. I landed a Panasonic 50PZ700 in the January sales, and have a PS3 as blu ray player. I am now looking to get a decent but afforadable sound system. I have heard a lot of good stuff on Onkyo AV receivers, and was thinking of the TXSR605. Would this be a good choice, or should I go up to the 606? As far as speakers are concerned I am clueless. Her indoors requires piano black floor standers to match the tv and stand. With those instructions the Pioneer SV410 seem to fit in the looks department. However, I cannot base such an investment on looks. Can anyone advise if these are good or not please. Any alternative suggestions also greatly appreciated. I am not overly confident about buying separate speakers without advice. The room is quite large at 4m wide, and 7m long. We sit around 5m from the tv. The system will be used mainly for watching tv and movies, but also a bit of music. I would think that around £500 would be the top end of the speaker budget. Thank you to anyone who can help.

If you're not looking for any upscaling options and 2 HDMI inputs is enough for you, the 605 would be fine. If you do want upscaling or perhaps more HDMI inputs, look at the 606 (it has 4). There are amps from Denon, Marantz, Sony, Yamaha, Pioneer and a plethora of other manufacturers but the Onkyo is generally considered the better (for movies anyway). However, new amps from other manufacturers at this price point are being released in the next few months so this may change soon.

Haven't heard the Pioneer speakers you mention but WHF gave them 4 stars. Do the speakers have to be small? The Q Acoustics 1010i package comes in black and is very good at that price range.
