Looking for a bit of advice on whether to upgrade my old AV amp for something newer after recently adding a Sony BDPS370 Blu Ray player to my kit

Currently run a 10 year old (but mint!) Yamaha DSP 595A handling the Dolby Digital duties. Stereo pair are routed as pre-outs to my main stereo amp (Audiolab 8000A) driving EPOS ES11 fronts speaker with the Yamaha driving an EPOS M8 centre and Mission 77DS rears plus Yamaha Sub (ideally would use the Yamaha amp on the stereo pair for AV duty to keep things balanced but don't want to have to switch round cables or use a switching box for the Audiolab on music duty!)

Budget is a bit tight so upgrade to Yamaha RXV667 or similar possible - will I notice a worthwhile difference once I can handle DTS - HD and Dolby True HD?

I know a lot of my kit is getting a bit old but it works great and gives a great sound - only want to change the av amp if the difference is worthwhile

Thanks in advance

Gary Cork,

High Definition will encompass both picture and sound, and at the moment, you're only enjoying half the fun, so to speak.

High Definition audio will blow your socks off, so I'd say go for it. The sound does more for me than the picture!

Since you are on a tight budget, maybe you don't really need an amp like the 667 with 3D pass-through.

A previous-generation amp like an Onkyo TX-SR607, Denon AVR-1910 or a Sony STR-DA2400ES will decode all of the HD-codecs competently, besides also saving you some money.

Just a surname I'm afraid!

I thought the new amp would be a good idea initially but got put off by a few things I read and the advice from a dealer who suggested I wouldn't notice much improvement

Figured the people on here would know from experience.

Thanks for the advice - anyone else have any thoughts?
