Hello all...

Was wondering if using aux in of my integrated amplifier from headphone out put of a highly regarded astell & Kern, give comparable sound quality to using a similar quality traditional source into the line level inputs at the back.

Just for the sake of comparison, the astell & Kern 380 comes with a dock with balanced xlr connections which can be connected to my amp. Or I can use the headphone out to aux in on my amp.

Disclaimer : IAM in no way considering the AK380. The above is only for illustration :)

If you are connecting a DAP of any make to an amp it is better if you connect via the line out on the DAP. They all have one, it often doubles as the headphone socket. If that's what you mean.

Will check that out. My problem is that none of the popular streaming sites that are normally available on modern streamers are available in my country. We have a few local streaming sites that need a web browser to access the same. So IAM presently using a iPod touch via Bluetooth as source. The sound quality is not very satisfying like this. My other option is to plug my laptop via usb to the amp's dac. I can do this sometimes , but my wife would never touch this arrangement with a barge pole. So I was actually contemplating going for something like a onkyo DP-X1 that is a Android based DAP. So I can open the streaming sites in the chrome browser and convert the digital stream via the onkyo's dac into my amps aux in. This way it would be simple enough for my wife to use it.

So was wondering if the sound quality going this route was worth the cost. Thanks.

I should imagine that is a better way of doing it but remember most streaming sites are doing so at a pretty poor quality anyway which is why I prefer my own rips and downloads. You don't say how much you can get the Onkyo for but the new Fiio X5 generation 3 would do the same or even the Pioneer XDP-100R
