I want to use my Audiolab 8000p power amp to drive the front speakers on a Sony strda 1200es surround sound amp, but i would also prefer to use the audiolab 8000a Pre amp to connect my CD player for obvious sonic benefits over the cheaper Sony. Can i connect 2 pre amps to the audiolab power, using only one pre at a time? The back of the audiolab power amp has 2 connections input and load? Is what i want to do (have my cake and eat it) possible? What im after is to use the audiolab pre/power for music but when watching Movies have the benefit of the power amp driving my front speakers via the surround amp. as i dont want to have to disconnect cables every time i switch sources. Or have 2 pairs of "Front" speakers.

Many Thanks

Can your speakers be bi-amped? The obvious thing to do would be to connect the sony pre-outs to the 'A' then connect the 'A' pre-outs to the 'P' then drive the treble on your speakers with the A and the bass with the P. Then you have the best possible sound amplification driving your front speakers at all times and the ability to by-pass your Sony with stereo sources. If the speakers can't be bi-amped then you can connect the amps together in the same way, but you would have to connect the speakers only to the P (just using the A as a pre-amp). In that case it might not be worth getting the P, and just use the A as an integrated.

I see what your saying is that use the pre / power and say CD player as a ordinary hi fi system, but then using the sony front pre out as an external source? (so as i dont use the tuner then i could connect the sony front pre out to the audiolab tuner input)?

Thanks I'll try that.
