ATMOS sound quality

Is there any other benefit to ATMOS other than the height channels? Is the mapping of the sound across the speakers better than 5.1?

I did a quick demo and the sound transition between the speakers sounded better than 5.1, e g right to centre, to left etc but I wasn't sure it was my imagination

I only use 5.1 at the moment but do find that Atmos sounds better - especially with rear effects. I find that Atmos mixes sound a lot more dynamic and alive.

Whether this is down to better mapping/integration I cannot say for sure. It could simply be that Atmos tends to come with newer releases so they may simply have been engineered better to begin with.

I have a 5.1.4 Atmos setup and do find it more engaging than my previous 5.1.
It's not a dedicated room so some comprises had to be had.
