Hi

I am thinking of buying a second hand 1st gen Apple TV. I want to use it just for music, to connect to my Denon DM37. My question is can I sync to my itunes library to it then access all my music when my laptop is switched off, and control the apple TV via the free app I have on my ipod touch?

Any advice much appreciated

Thanks

Yes you can. You can choose to only stream your iTunes library (thus needing your laptop to be on), or to store it on the 160 gig hard drive (in which case the laptop can be off), or a combination of the two (ie sync only selected bits of your library and stream the rest). I'd recommend syncing anyway, since it negates any networking issues. Use an ethernet cable to do the initial sync though, other wise it'll take forever.

Yes, that's one of the advantages of the old-model Apple TV - the new one doesn't have a hard drive, so you can only stream to it and your computer has to be on.

Keep your eye out for new ones also, there are not too many around now but you may be able to pick up a sale bargain, I was lucky enough to be in the states a couple of months ago and picked one up there for $150.
