B&W 602 s2 or s3

MA rs1's

i am using the dac- magic which i think is great punchy fast clear detailed but maybe brighter than i thought it might of been.

arcam alpha9 great very forward and bags of power.

my problem seems to be that my monitor audio bronze range speakers seem to be very see through, i guess they are showing me that they have no charater of there own. If i play the br5's or 1's through my denon 1909 with movies/games/sky they become very warm but with music they lack bite. But as soon as i play them though my arcam they become bright harsh at the top end, midrange is a little to forward and the bass is way to deep on the 5's. I am enjoying the 1's a little more until i fancy the who loud and they lack body and almost are crying for help.

So after that im looking for a speaker which would match my kit. I want the sound to be detailed but without the sound hitting me around the face. i guess smooth is a good word to use for me.

I am looking standmounts i really dont think floorstanders under £850 offer enough value for money. I am on a tight budget and im very keen to get all my bronze monitor audio stuff over to the av side. So i guess come end of may i will have around £275-£350

the next thing would i be better to pick some £50 beasts like a pair of misson 700 series s/hand and save for better speakers. say £550-£700 worth.

last question how much would i need to pay to better my alpha9 amp. i do like the rotel 04se but is that sidewould step.

the br5 are not very good ,because of the mid proeminence.but perhaps you can use a bit the treble and bass knob on the arcam.try boosting both a bit to say 1,5 hours or the other way around to see if you like more. Ive heard the br1 but they seemed to hard to drive.all the speakers you mentioned before might mmore balanced, xcept the iq30 wich are a bit agressive also.If I were you I'd use the br1 on home cinema amp, and the br5 on the arcam, and try to find the right bass and treble adjustements for it.

this thread is not real , its a mirage , created from drinking too much tea , im going to another forum

they are good speakers.relax.just a bit forward on the midrange. I like a lot the smoothness of the br5.With the yamaha 756 you can easily tune the speaker sound if you wish so.

I use the Dali Ikon 1's with a DacMagic. They produce a very detailed sound, with in my opinion the best high end and mid range at the price point. Where they do lack is in bass; it's just a bit lacking in depth, though tight. That said I preferred them to all the other options at my price point (£400). Money no object I would have went for the Ikon 2's. No regrets though, they are a very enjoyable little speaker.

Some complain they can be a bit bright when not matched properly; make sure you demo.

i assume the op has tried the different filter settings?

even through some warm and smooth partners, i found the dm still had a bit of brightness to the treble. the min filter sounded best to me.

thanks, the first thing is the sound is what im after when the kit is going the av amp as far as its a smooth listen but its to safe. Then i got the arcam amp and it was great puncy and forward but a little bright. Now ive just bought a dac-magic cause of the quailty of it, the problems have been blown up. I do use that min on the dac. I really think its that the bronze range are great but i feel they are easy driven and almost pass the sound of the eletcronics through so on the av kit i will love them. But for music i need/would like a different sound.

Acoustic Energy Neo 1 if you feel the bass is too much

or these imposing standmounts

not as bad but the bass is slower and its less dynamic so i have even put the cdplayer through the dac-magic which gave it a new life. I making my speakers sound awful, they are spot on at night low volume the dac-magic is unreal so much punch and detail but as soon as i crank it up, the soundstage becomes very forced on me and it all seems bright and deep bass or over the top bass. I feel like saying to the speakers chill out a touch.thats why i thinking that i might try and get a bookshelf speaker that is hard to drive and is a little laid back.

I know what you mean but my speakers for instance are so much better than the BR2's, and essentially the BR5's inherit a lot of the characteristics of the BR2's. I understand where you are coming from but this is just the bronze range, it gets a lot better than that, floorstanders to.

Out of the above speakers you've mentioned IU think the B&W 602 S2's or the S3's would be your best bet

They gel with Arcam very well (I should know I've had these speakers and the Arcam Alpha 9 amps umpteen times

)

They will calm the brightness down but they'll also give you more controlled and taut bass over the M/A BR5's.

The M/A RS1's are good speakers but they wont give youas good as dyunamics as you've got currently.

If you still want floorstanders then seriously consider the Acoustic Energy AE Neo 3's!
