It's Sony first foray into the LED TV business for the masses. It's unfortunate that the company's own 'proprietory' technology OLED - photo sensentive compound, micron thin, that glows by electrically fed impulses - is not used for these new LED sets. This would have been a knock out punch to the competition! Can you imaging how thin that type of TV could be? I would dub it as the true 'son' of LCD and CRT technology.
The understated look of the Sony Bravia 3 LCD range doesn't bother me the least as I watch TV in the dark. The new Sony LEDs may look nicer but it has a huge hurdle to overcome with Philips and Samsung upping the game.
According to other Sources of information the Sony LCD range currently delivers the deepest blacks possible using 'cold' Flourencent [CCFC] bulbs. Another reviews on the W5500 series gave it a 5 Star rating as What Hi Fi and Video also accorded. Interestingly the Philips XX9803H LED wasn't seen to be all that much better than the Sony. And at nearly 2 thousand pounds versus a cheaper £800 Sony set. That's how good the Sonys are.
How these new Sony LED Edge lit TV will compete is any bodies guess. For one, I don'r believe it will beat the Philips or Samsung. It might even be upsurp by the W and Z LCD freesat range?
I would hold back in buying these new sets till the reviews come in from all the magazines.
