Anyway, I could bet you that exactly the sound you are after would be available from anything with Accuphase or Luxman brandished across the front of it. That said, you could always look into the Arcam A38...

Luxman L-590 is $9000 so I did not even bother finding out what the L-590 or 550 cost over here! The Accuphase costs twice my budget.

'Too mono' means what it says. Very little - no sense of space in the sound.

Yes, but you could try second hand!

I agree with the P38 though, it's just like my Arcam: Clinical, lean, uninvolving and lacking drive. I want a new amp, perhaps I'll try and second hand Accuphase - they are supposed to be very, very musical amplifiers!
