Like a lot of people I get lip sync problems with my sky+ hd box. I've had the box since about last July/August.

To be clear it only occurs on either a recorded program or if i pause live tv.

A rebuild always fixes it, but then after a few days or maybe its a few times of pausing the programme its back to lip-sync hell.

Quite frustrating having to do a rebuild every day.

So after having been a sky customer for the last ten years I have started thinking about jumping ship to virgin.

Anyone know if virgin suffers a similar problem to sky in this area?

I've had a Virgin + box since they started doing them, so a couple of years or so, and I don't recall ever having a lip synch problem.

Having said that, I run everything through an Onkyo 605 amp; while there may be time delays set up on my amp, there hasn't subsequently been a problem requiring retweaking.

Not sure if that makes sense (it's been a long week), but hopefully you get the gist.

Thanks Jon. No that made sense. As I say its alright when watching normal TV. Its only if I pause it (or on some recorded programmes from the start).

I would imagine I'm tied into a min 12 month contract with sky so it may mean I have to stay with them until the 12 month is up anyway.

I was put off virgin a few years ago when I saw a mates once and i thought the interface or epg was a bit confusing but I think that might be a case of familiarity breeds contempt.

Sorry, this thread slipped me by over the weekend.

Dave, I'd have no difficulty in recommending Virgin+.

I've been a Telewest/Blueyonder/Virgin customer for around 14 years or more.

They've certainly had their 'moments' when I've been extremely ticked off with them over the years, but on the whole I think they've provided a very decent service.

I have TV, phone and Broadband through them.

In an ideal world, I'd like to have Sky's HD channels, especially sport, but that is compensated for by the fine broadband performance. I'm on an up to 20meg service, and it's rock solid at between 18.5 and 19.5 at pretty much any time of the day.

Lack of much HD apart, the TV service is good - and I confess to being a little ashamed at how often I/my family use all three tuners to record two programmes while watching a third. That 9.00pm timeslot can sometimes be quite full...

Edit: I also have no problems with the epg. As you say, it's probably a familiarity thing - wouldn't take long to get used to it, I'm sure

Thanks again Jon. Sky sent out an engineer on sunday (14-feb) who replaced the box with a new amstrad unit. Good points are its about two thirds the size of the old box (old = 6 months), its hard disk is twice the size and I can now get ITV HD. And although its early days i havent had the lip-sync problem (yet).

I havent ruled out virgin yet. I get broadband for free through orange, but I do get my phone through sky so I may yet be giving them a call especially if the lip-sync resurfaces. Thanks for your views.
