hello "what hi-fi?" users!

since this is my first post at the forum i think i should introduce myself (shortly 😉). i'm a 29 years old portuguese audio lover with a special taste for vintage! now back to the subject...

i'm going to substitute my old hi-fi stereo for a new setup - amplifier, turntable, speakers -.

my first choice for turntable and speakers is: rega rp1 and q acoustics concept 20 respectively.

my question is: for this setup, should i go with a vintage amplifier or a new one? i just love the 70's marantz style but can i get the maximum out of the other components with those? my budget is 300 eur or 250 pounds.

what do you think?

thanks a lot and hope hearing from you soon.

Finding a seller who's knowledgeable and honest about the condtion of older gear is the biggest challege. Buying used gear of that age is a minefield because there's been 35-45 years to f'k it up. Plus some components just naturally deteriorate with age and use, typically electrolytic capacitors, and in many cases vintage gear will need a partial or full re-cap.

thanks for the answers!

i was checking the reviews for marantz pm6005 and they blew my mind but i wonder... are q acoustics concept 20 a good pair of speakers for this amplifier? i think i don't have the possibility of hearing them on before buying them...

I was very impressed when I heard the Concept 20s, but haven't heard them with the Marantz...though I don't see why it wouldn't work very nicely.

I am following a danish guy on youtube who uses a marantz TT-15S1 with the marantz PM6005 and he thinks it sounds good
