Amp video upscaling

I've just read in the manual for the Sony 810 that it will only up-scale a 480i input and nothing else, is this just because it s a low end amp? and does this mean if i'm running sky HD in to it that setting it to automatic won't actually do anything and there doesn't seem to be a 480i resolution option for the HD box.

And would this mean than running a Wii through the amp for example be better setting it to 480i so the amp will up-scale or running it in the native 480p?

Don't normally like responding to my own post, but just wondering if anyone knew about the video up-scaling on other amps and if they can up-scale other resolutions apart from 480i.

My onkyo up scales any resolution to 1080p, but like you say the Sony may just be a lower end AMP and lacks a good video scaler, iv read a bit of the manual and if you output 720p from your sky HD box then it will remain 720p to your TV, for your wii, to me it would be best to leave it at 480p as that will be a lot better coming native from the wii then the AMP just converting it and just let your TV do the scaling.
