Amp & speakers versus Cinema in a box?

I have recently got myself a panasonic 42" plasma (TH42PX80B) and digi recorder (DMR EX78) and am more than happy with both but I have to decide whether it is worth shelling out for a decent amp and some speakers or whether to go for the cheaper and perhaps more sensible cinema in a box option.

It seems a bit daft to get another DVD player when I already have one in my DMR EX78 unit but my question is whether this would be a good platform to watch DVDs. I have a budget and looking around, the Onkyo TX-SR506 seems well thought of for the amp and the Q Acoustics 1010i 5.1 to plug into it.

Will it all fit together nicely I wonder or is it just easier to get a cinema in a box and just have 2 DVD players?

Hi Mate,

I purchased the SONY DAV-IS10 and have been really pleased with it. Looks fantastic and sounds great - My friends LOVE the tiny speakers which pleases me massively!
For true volume and sound quality I dont think you can beat a seperates system but has cost implications.
I wanted something minamalist as my lounge isnt huge - Even the wife was happy to get the DAV-IS10 (and thats saying something!)

Its a tough call - Im going to live with the extra DVD player as I have a PS3 already running which does a great job of upscaling.

I'm almost positive an Onkyo 506 + Q Acoustics 1010i package would beat the DAV-IS10 hands down, but then it does cost more. If you can afford separates and can have bigger traditional style speakers in your front room, go for this as it will beat an all-in-one / style system in sound quality. Just make sure you audition it first.

Thanks for the advice. I must admit that if I decide to go down the cinema in a box route the Sony is one of the contenders for me and if it pleases the wife well it has to be a winner!
