am i upgrading or down grading ?

I currently have a Yamaha amp (htr-554ords) which is a basic dolby/dts amp, and it has served me well. I also have floor standing eltax speakers which cost me around £50.00. My surround speakers are basic speakers and a not so good subwoofer.

I watch alot of dvd's but like my bass as I listen to a lot of hiphop. Whilst not the best set up in the world i think the eltax are good speakers for the price.

I am redecorating, and the colour of the eltax speakers doesnt match the room, so time for an upgrade, I am on a limited budget, so wanting to keep the Yamaha, until it blows up and then will upgrade that.

I am wanting to avoid floor standing speakers if possible due to the size and I have seen some nice jamo a102 hc05 or harmon kardon hkt 7 or even the onkyo skht528, the thing is if i am shelling out the money to buy these will the sound be worth the extra money ie better then my existing eltax.

would the alternatives mentioned above beat my eltax for sound ?

OR should I buy some black slightly better floor standing speakers that look good thinking KEF five 2 series model 7 can anyone think of any alternatives max 250) , and make the existing eltax speakers my rears?!.

Small satellite type speakers are quite different to normal hi-fi speakers. I would recmmend a listen to some first before jumping ship and possibly ending up with something you'll be disapointed with. If you like bass, you may prefer a sub/sat system as subwoofers will normally reach lower than hi-fi speakers, but you can sometimes find that midrange isn't quite as good. Definitely audition a package or two before taking the plunge.

I heard the jamo's and they are quite impressive set for the size an price, thought i still prefer Hi-Fi style Wood Box Speakers, I think they are much better, then the other mentioned packages, as Jamo is the only speaker dedicated manufacturer of the three.
