advice re. second hand t/t

I am thinking about getting a second hand turntable.

My limit is £100 and must be direct drive. Can anyone recommend an older model that sounds fine.

Am I asking for the impossible?

Technics SL1300, 1500 1600 and 1700 are all good turntables, especially if you can find the Mk2 versions which have quartz locking. You need to check that speed is constant, as sometimes the speed pots get dirty and can be awkward to clean.

If you want to try something a bit more adventurous, then the Technics linear trackers are well worth considering, especially if you can find and SL-7 or SL-10. Not only do they sound good, but they're beginning to appreciate noticeably. The only down side is that they use P-mount cartridges, and the choice of new cartridges is limited.
