I own a pair of Grado SR80 headphones, a Bose Cinemate and a Sony Bravia LCD TV. I want to listen to DVDs and Blu Rays without disturbing my partner. The Bose system does not have a headphone socket, the Bravia's output via headphones is poor and the cable on the Grados isn't long enough.

Do I need wireless, sound cancelling headphones?

Or would a headphone amplifier do the trick?

Grado do an extension cable and state you can actually daisy-chain 3 extension cables together with no loss in sound quality.

A headphone amp my be the best bet, but don't forget they don't have remote controls. That means either getting a headphone extension cable and lots of getting up and down to alter volume, or it means buying very long interconnects to your TV and having the amp near you.

I've not been to impressed with the wireless cans I've heard, but I've not heard any lately (last couple of years). Things may have come on leaps and bounds.

This is before we get onto the fact the Grados leak like a sieve and will probably still end up disturbing your other half.

Thanks Big Chris. Didn't realise that Grado offer extensions. Although you're right, Grado headphones aren't much quieter than speakers!

I think I paid about £30 for my Grado extension. Although you may also need their 6.4mm jack to 3.5mm minijack adaptor, my Grado extension only has the bigger 6.4mm connector on the end.

Thanks again. And would you recommend plugging the headphones directly into my Sony Blu Ray player?

If it has a headphone out and a volume control, why not?

Try the BD & the TV, see which you prefer.
