I'm currently getting my home cinema room completed and need some advice?

1) What are the best colour themes for a cinema room and is it better to have a carpet or hard foor surfice?

2) the Kit!!! (I've scneed over reviews and basically picked most of the gear i've seen with best reviews)

I also need some advice on what you think would be the best setup for my new home cinema room, I’ll also use it for my Xbox too! I’m not too techy to be honest and just want to make sure I get the best available kit!

So I was thinking of either going 3D now or just getting the best HD setup within my budget (Approx £3000)!

So please help me with the below

1) 3D Home Cinema setup

What do you advise with regards TV, 3d Blue Ray Player, Receiver, Speakers and Cables + anything else you can think of I’ll need?

I've looked at the UE40C7000 and its nice! but is it better waiting a while?

2) HD setup

TV (What would you recommend)

UE46B8000 Approx £1650

or

40PFL9704 Approx £1800

Or

KDL-46Z4500 Approx £1300

Blue Ray

BDP-S760 Approx £280

or

?

Receiver

AVR-1910 Approx £380

Or

STR-DH800 Approx £240

Speakers

Q Acoustics 2000 Approx £480

or

B&W MT25 Approx £970

Cables

Chord Company HDMI Supershield

Chord Company Carnival Silverscreen

Any other cables you can think off? Is the “Clearer Audio Copper-Line Alpha” cable suitable for all?

+

Anything else i need?

+

Any advice or reccomendations?

I'll let you guys argue it out and come up with the best solution and i'll buy it!!)

Cheers

First of all if I were you I would decide for yourself whether or not you will want a 3D setup. Other peoples opinions will vary so you need to decide which you prefer before spending a penny of your £3K budget. If you make that decision at least you have a starting point to start taking suggestions for a TV, Blu-Ray player and a receiver.

If you are setting up a cinema room while you decide on equipment I personally wouldn't worry too much about the colour. I suppose the logical choice of colour would be black as in a normal cinema but I don't think that is really necessary. I would definitely go for wooden or hard surface floor. Since I took up my carpets in my lounge and had a wooden floor fitted the acoustics in my room have improved loads.

I'm leaning towards a HD setup rather than 3D, there is only 1 set out currently and hardly any dvd's or games in 3D either, i reckon in another 18/24 months will be the time to look at it more seriously when its further developed!

So advice on my HD setup would be great!

With a £3K budget I would personally be looking at putting a larger chunk towards an AV receiver. You mention the Denon 1910 which is a great receiver but the Denon 2310 is the next model up and it is only a couple of hundred pounds extra. I wouldn't bother with the £240 Sony receiver you mentioned given what you intend to spend overall. I have being looking around at Blu-Ray players recently and at £200 the Pioneer BDP-320 seems the one to beat, it was originally £400 and got great reviews at that price. You can't go wrong with the Samsung 46B8000, that TV won best buy here last year which says it all.

Here you can buy the excellent Denon 2310 & Q Acoustics speaker package for £1060. Bear in mind you will not be able to buy Denon equipment online. Other stores like Richer Sounds should price match any legitmate offers.

Here you can get the Pioneer BDP-320 for £189.

The Samsung UE46B8000 can be bought from numerous retailers around the £1600 mark. I would shop around for the best warranty as well as price though.

So all of the above would come to around £2850 (give or take a few quid on the TV) This would leave you enough of your budget to cover cable costs. Obviously you mentioned some other cheaper TV sets that would bring this total down considerably. Don't forget you may also require speaker stands, for the front pair at least.

Please use the above information as a starting point, an example if you like. All of this is just where I'd probably go if starting from scratch at the moment. Demo everything yourself before parting with any of your hard earned cash. Receivers in particular can sound quite different and are down to personal preference so be sure to spend some time listening to a few. Good luck anyway
