Should I go for a new DENON DCD1500AE or a 4 year old CD17MKIIM?

Well.....you're putting up a circa £500 player against a circa £800-900 one, and a well rated one at that. You need to listen to them if you can. My money would go to the Marantz if you can't, but one of the other guys on here has the Denon and really rates it.

Why the Marantz? Strong reviews, from a highly regarded line of upper mid-range players they put out (is this the KI version out of interest? Worth checking if so...), fine build. One of their last "golden age" players IMO - from the CD52 in 1992 to the CD17/CD17-KI this was a really good period for the firm.

But....demo if at all possible!
