Dear all this is my first post so please be patient as I am a new by to creating my own home cinema package.

i have an onkyo tx-nr414 av amp which currently has some old Panasonic home cinema speakers connected to it. I have just noticed that the amp states it runs speakers from 6 ohms to 16 ohms, however my Panasonic speakers are 3 ohms which probably explains why the sound quality and volume is so poor.

i am now looking to replace these speakers and am looking for advice on the best front, rear and centre channel speakers with a budget of £300 . I do not need a sub as currently have a tanyo sub connected.

i have tried to surf the net but there is so much choice and conflicting reviews.

i like the monitor audio r90 and r180's but they are a bit out of my budget even on ebay, so am looking for something of similar quality within my budget.

please help

I've seen the (older) Monitor Audio Radius One HD for sale on Ebay and in Sevenoaks stores at around your budget. It's a passive soundbar which essentially puts two R90HD's and one R180HD in one long cabinet. I used to use one of these, and although the separation is obviously not quite up to separate speakers, the quality is just the same and the results are pretty impressive. And for stereo sources, (TV / CD etc), look for a setting on your receiver that plays through all available channels (as the left & right channels on their own can sound a little lightweight).

You can then build on this system adding sub, then rear speakers later.

Alternatively, if you just can't wait for the whole system now, you could try the Boston Acoustics Soundware 5.1 XS SE. I've not heard these personally, but they've had decent reviews and one or two happy customers I've noted on this forum, although I can't imagine they're in the same league as the Radius.
