Hi

Sorry if this has been asked before (I had a quick search), I have a PS3 and a cheap Goodmans surround sound systems which is supposed to be 5.1. I get really good stereo from it but the rear speakers are silent.

The connections are only red & white phono from the PS3's mulit AV out so how can it ever acheive 5.1? There are no optical outs or HDMI sockets on the back of this so I guess I will never get true 5.1 from this. If this amp is a no go would anyone be able to recommend a suitable amp to use with the existing speakers to acheive 5.1 from a PS3 and DVD player.

I don't want anything too loud or anything and it only needs to be a budget one.

Many thanks.

hi if your goodmans doesn't have a digital input then no it won't give 5.1 however the red/whited RCA will only give stereo sound. check Richer sounds for an entry level AV amp by Sony or Yamaha. decent enough for £150/£200.

hope that helps.
in the future you could then get an entry level speaker package they do!!

I believe your goodmans has a digital coaxial input (orange connector on the back), so should be good the 5.1 sound, according to its spec.

So u could get use an optical lead from the ps3 to an optical-coaxial-converter box (9.95), and a coaxial lead from the converter to the goodmans. You can get the cables for about £3 each.

Thank you so much for your help, the instructions aren't very clear for this amp but it does have an orange phono stlye input on the back. I've just ordered the convertor and cables which has saved me spending £180 on a new amp (which I was about to do!).

Thanks again.
