Hello

So im currently building a home cinema, and i have some speakers in mind that i have read up about to be amazing only issue is that im now considering what other options are out there. Ive managed to find a good set of 7, KHT9000 for approx £150per speaker. Id like to know from your opinions and experiance what else is out there new or used i should be considering and why.

Ive read some artivles about these speakers to hear there phenomenol at the time of the review and still are but wondered whether for the same money i should be considering anything else. I realise these are an older speaker but the reviews seem very good. Are they a good choice? Is that a good price?

Would appreciate your reasons behind any alternatives, ideally have to wall mountable over standing. I just need someone who knows the current market in speakers and quality. I know these are an old set compared to whats new out now but wondered if anyone with experience can shine some information on differences and pros/cons on other speaker sets.

Back in the day they seem to have got very very good reviews. And let's face it, KEF products usually do. And another let's face it, if the WHF journos could be thumbscrewed even they would admit speakers haven't really changed that much in the last ten years anyway. Evolution yes, revolution no.

They've been superseded by the KEF T301 series fronts (T301C centre - the only real differenc ebeing that the logo is rotated through 90 degrees, maybe the fixing holes as well) and smaller (if you want them)T-101s for rear and side surrounds, which are much much thinner. But then a pair of new T301s is going to cost you in the order of 500 quid, maybe 750 quid in the UK, and a T301C will cost you slightly more than half the cost of a pair, so you'd be looking at anywhere between 1650 and 2650 Pounds for a new set of 301s.

Usual advice with older speakers: make sure the cabinets / cases are in good shape, test each and every speaker cone and tweeter, check for bashed or split cones, bashed in tweeter domes, etc., check the binding posts and if they have removable grills, that the little plastic things that hold the grills in place are all still there. And get a written receipt with serial numbers if possible just in case.

I really hope you bought these.

I stumbled upon a pair of these with stands for $100 a few weeks ago. I've probably moved through 30+ pairs of speakers in the past few years (multiple magnepans (lrs/mg3,mgc1 1.7qrs) , klipsch forte/heresy/kgs, old polk monitors, Martin Logan (motions), bose 10.2/901s, KEF q550s, bozaks, NHTs, B&O pentas, Allison cd7/cd8, infinity kappa 8/kappa6, renaissance 9) --

I got these because they were cheap and I thought they looked cool. Almost no information on them online.

In reality I think they are my favorite speakers I've ever owned. Now I would preface this statement with that they NEED a subwoofer, but once you get that adding a little on the low end, they offer the perfect balance of neutrality, detail, warmness, and soundstage. Don't know what it is either (maybe because they are specifically made for home theater?) but using them with my tv I find hearing dialogue on all these modern shows to be much easier. I will forever be on the lookout for KHT-9000s

They haven't been back here in the best part of eight years.
