Some of you will know I have been looking for a new micro to replace a 1yr old Marantz 601 that has been sent back for repair 3 times and is still not right, the whole unit is total rubbish so I have decided to buy a new micro, this micro is to be used in the bedroom mainly to listern to radio plays / soft music to fall asleep too (as I have slight tinitus) so it is vital that you are able to dim or switch the display off (cannot stand bright lights while trying to sleep, nor can the misses) so I had chosen the Teac 300mk3 very nice system and you can dim the display, so whats the problem? I went into the hi-fi shop today to buy this and had a play with it, on the amp they have but 3 bright fluorescent lights that stay on all the time and do not dim with the rest of the display, what the f*** is the point of having a display that dims but then have 3 bright lights that are brighter then the main display and you cannot dim them, I am at a loss to know what to buy now, the Onkyo is no good as the display is bright blue and no dimmer on it, I will not buy another Marantz (even thought it does dim 3 times to almost no display, about the only good thing it did do), I am just so pi**** off that these companies put all this time and money in designing these units yet they cannot think to put a simple dimmer on a unit that has a good chance of been used in a bedroom, or they add extra lights that have no use and could be do away with.

Don't know how much you want to spend but have you considered the new Arcam Solo Mini? The display can be dimmed to different levels and different levels can be set for the power on display and the clock display. Other than that there is just one small light in the centre of the unit which I think is dimmed with the display. It costs £650 but the sound is fantastic IMHO.

Thanks I will check that out, my budget is fairly high anything upto around £600 - 700 is ok without speakers.
