My second amp (Pioneer A757) has just developed a very strange fault. the amp's circuit protection (where it shuts off the speakers output) keeps kicking in for no apparent reason... it will happen when i am adjusting the volume - both up AND down and there is also a lot of static when adj. the vol. when the amp first starts.

what is most unsual though is that after the amp shuts of its output it will restart after 5 or so secs. and will then happily go onto higher volumes. when the music is playing at a constant volume there is no problem with the amp or sound but this problem is worrying... before the protection activates there is a loud crack in the left hand channel...
any help would be much appreciated.
forgot to mention this problem occurs even when there is no source or speakers connected to the amp - i can still hear the "clicking" from within the amp.

I wouldn't try to solve the problem myself as you might damage it. I tried to fix my mission 770 speaker last week. Now it doesn't work at all. Then I took it to the man at the place I bought it. He says it will never ever work again. So take your amp to someone who you know knows what he is doing. I dont think there is any simple solution to your problem that you can handle. Though I would wait for other responses here for a week or so. Also, I wouldn't risk to use the amp untill I know what is going on in it. (if the problem is about the protection, that might mean that it is not being protected at all)

It could be something or nothing - but as advised, take it to a specialist. Or it could be a great excuse to upgrade!

thanks guys but i was hoping someone on here may have had or heard of a similar problem and be able to offer me some advice on how to fix it. i am not worried about breaking the amp as it didnt cost much and to take it to someone to be fixed would be costly... i am pretty handy at fixing things and soldering so was just looking for some advice as to where to start.
