Having recently adopted blu-ray and just moved up to larger 1080p TV I am considering the benefits to be had from upgrading my nearly 10 years old Denon AVR 2801 receiver (most likely for their new AVR 1911 model). I am currently routing the true HD audio through the Ext-in inputs on my receiver. From what I've read I am assuming the HDMI output from my bluray deck will be routing through the new receiver to the TV. The sound through my current set sounds pretty godd so I am wondering what kind of gains I could expect from uprgading,

Thanks

Tough one.

Just to clarify, you're getting lossless sound by connecting a Blu Ray player to the Denon using multichannel analogue outputs/inputs?

If so, and you're happy with the sound, it's might be sensible to save your money. The jump from standard DD/DTS to lossless audio is probably worth the upgrade if you're not connected this way. Otherwise, you'd have spend a fair bit to gain significant improvements over you current receiver.
